Christmas Music Night!

So we did our Christmas concert for the university today and yesterday. It was kind of a hosposh collaboration of all the music departments. All of them did there own program for the show. I play with the sympony and bass for one of the numbers that the choir did.

I was quite shocked when the house was packed for it. Back at the community college. We were lucky to get about 100 people for these things. But at the university that I'm going to, we had over 700 people both nights to see us.

The first night was nice but the second night something unexpected happened. During one of the songs, the fire alarm when off. Everybody had to exit the building until the fire department came and shut off the alarm. There was no fire or anything but, it was still fun just the same. After that was all sorted out the concert when on with out any problems.

Now for tomorrow, I have jury's for percussion. Fun times I think...

You know what I love about the grand theft auto games?

It doesn't have to do with the fact that the games are make by adults for adults. It doesn't have to do with the fact that you do dastardly deeds that would get you in jail if preformed in real life. Nope, I like to perfect the games by trying to get %100 completed of all the tasks. I do this a lot in video games. It just seems that I can't stop. In super punch out I have to get the best times or in super Mario world 2 I have to find all those red coins and whatnot. Is there something wrong with me? Why can I just play games for the fun of it? Or, do I have fun finding every little thing in every game that I play. Hmmmmm.

I guess to put it in a nutshell I like games.

Something to write about.

Preclude: I've been at the community college in my home town for 9 years of struggling with my academics. After all that time, I am now at university taking music classes to study so I can get my teaching degree. To sum what's happen these one and a half months, everything is new and I feel a bit out of place.

We got our writing portfolio back from midterms in class. It was funny because I put the whole thought of getting a grade out of my mind. Before the teacher gave us are portfolio back, he told us that only 12 people out of 25 people received a "Exceeds Expectation" mark. The others got, "Meets Expectations, Approaching Expectation, and Does Not Meet Expectations. It was after that announcement, that my whole body was over come with absolute fear. I kind of excepted the worst if anything at all.

The teacher put the portfolio of all my work so far that term right right in front of me. I opened it and was was just dumbfounded of the marks that I received. "Exceeds Expectation," in all marks; Writing process, Focus, Development, Organization, Style and Mechanics. I can't even describe the pure raw emotions that hit me. I was so shaken up by this that man hand were shaking horribly and tears welled up in my eyes.

All those years of being in special education. All those years of failed or barely passing writing classes. All of those years that the good minded special education teacher told my mom that, "he will never make it in college." All of those years of my dad calling me an "idiot" and a "dummy." All those nine long years of struggling with community college. All these 28 years ... those things are over.

I know that this might not ever happen again and may not mean some thing to others but to me, my mind is blown. I guess I have all this to thank to all those years of writing on the internet. From the old TWC forms from EGS to this very Livejournal and the frends I've talked to on (and off) of AIM. I have you to thank.

I think it's time that I write once again...

My Dark Side.

There is a side of me that I have to keep locked up, my dark side. When I tell people that I do have one it really creeps them out and rightly so. It's the part of me that wishes that I was somewhere else when I'm around adults or adult like people. When I was growing up I was a very quite child. I didn't talk much and did what I was told and that never bothered me. What did bother me what when they adult type people start interacting. It was so boring! All they go on and on about is interactions. Who dated who. What was on that tv program. What did their kid do. The list keeps going on and on. And now I've reached a certain age now, my peers have kind of slipped into aduitims. It's like I'm always wrong and they are always write. Is it any wonder that I've now become ani-scolcal? Maybe it's because I don't crave their "positive-nagitve" reinforcement and them push them away because of it. It could be that they can be out right hateful to other people behind there backs.

The point of the mater is that I've have changed and I feel like this is a good thing. I'm no longer an weak person. I'm more stronger emotionally and still I have love in my heart! What haven't changed is the people around me in this town. They still treat me as I am. Insecure, weak, and dumb. There are a few that I can relate to but I can never feel that I can truly revail my heart to them. Nearly every time to do show my heart to them it gets town back at me and of course I look like the idiot. I don't have anybody that I can truly "be my self" around and it makes me sad. I guess what I'm trying to say is while I do get along with people and love them I kind of wish that there was someone that would get along with me. I guess I have my self to blame as well. I push people away. I don't know why I do it but I do. If I've ever did this to anyone reading this, I can not express my apology.

I love webcomics , anime, music, and love! My love for some of these things are so deep that it kind of hurts. When the people that I'm around don't feel the same way about music and comics it breaks my heart . I guess it's time that I do move out of this town. I do love everyone with all my heart but I have to leave. My heart needs it and my sowl needs it as sad as that sounds. I may never find what I'm looking for when I do leave but I feel that if I don't I will slow lose myself. I only two and a half months away...

I've been spending some the last few weeks thinking what I should do with my life as of now. The problems stems from the fact that I've done everything I've wanted to do in life at the age of 27. Now I left thinking, what now? I tried to start making comics and fished writing 10 chapters mapped out. This is good but I don't have the time to draw them and when I do, well, I'm too burn out from doing life stuffs that I don't want to anything creative. I've been leaning the bass girtar but haven't practice for the aforementioned reasons. More to the point I feel like I'm waiting down the clock until I move from this town and go to the next college. More to the point, I've gotten lazy with life.

So for the past few days I been sick. And what do sick people do when get sick? Catch up on Webcomics they haven't read in years! And it was then when I was reading these webcomics that I realize somethings.

Now that all my dreams are accomplished there's nothing to live for and it just time to go thought it waiting for the end....

Until I realized, I've never beat FF1.

I've played it but never beat it.

So I know what my next purpose in life is. To beat all the Final fantasy games from FF1-FF10 this summer.

I was in an accident a few months back in which I lost a part of my tooth. A few days ago it started to hurt and so I saw a dentist that I knew from symphony. (He played bass). So when I was there he found out that the tooth next that that one was broken as well. So he took it both of them out and let me keep them.

So there I was trying to wait for the pain killers to work and looked at my teeth broken up in peaces. So I thought that would be fun to draw with my wacom. So you get this;

Now the pain is manged with pain killers and becuse of that I feel happy now. ^_^

I got my wacom (Intuos2) from the mail Today. I have to say that I love this thing! It's just like drawing on paper. It's so great. I know it sounds funny but I feel like it's got me back into drawing once again. I think the best motivator is the fact that I don't have to draw, trace, erase, and scan. I'm saving 2-3 hours. Super Yay! ^_^

I've been playing the electice bass for about 6 months now and have fell in love with the insternt. I've been taking lessins from a really good teacher and been practicing everyday. I've even played with the church band. I also played the upright bass (with a bow) in the youth symopony.

Well, something funny came up. For whatever reason I've got a lot to jobs this month with the theater center to run sound and lights for a number of shows. To make a long story short, I'm going to make about $600 this month on top of the $500 I normal make from the college. (I know I'm poor). So this idea hit me like a ton of briks, get a bass amp!

My main plan is to sell my self as a basses when I get started at EOU in about 5 months. That could be fun right?

Anyways here is my dream amp that I'm going to get soon.

There’s been something that I have been wanting so very much. And now it has been given to me. the symphony committee decided that I would have a chance to conduct a song with the treasure valley symphony. One of the things that I have been studying here at college is conducting. I have been a student under several good conductors and I’ve had chances to practice my art through various bands. But now I’m in the big leagues to perform a final peace with the college’s symphony orchestra.

There were 3 fears that were holding me back;

One, not being academically successful.

Two, not being prepared as a musician.

Three, not being viewed as a serious person that understands music.

The fears were relieved by the following emails;

I hear and understand your concerns. I can safely say that the

here at EOU would only help you in your non-music classes. We have a

student learning center which offers student tutoring and is staffed by

faculty who specialize in helping students with special learning needs

and guidance in nearly all types of classes. I would suggest emailing

Susan Whitelock who is one of our faculty who oversees the student

learning center program: xxxxxxxx@eou.edu. She and her staff are very

helpful in dealing with all types of learning situations for various

classes.

Also, Whether or not you have your Associates degree before you come to

EOU doesn't affect your music major status much at all. All it does is

eliminate the need to take "non music" courses at Eastern. We have a

transfer agreement with Treasure Valley that allows us to give you

credit for certain classes you took there, but you can start in as a

music major at any point in your educational learning process.

I would have lots of suggestions and offer much help in your sight

reading and other musical concerns. I know together we could work

through those issues and continue your improvement at a faster rate.

But

I would never push you into something you are not comfortable doing. So

you have the choice of waiting until you're finished at Treasure Valley

or coming next fall. We would certainly welcome you whenever you are

 ready.

Be assured we have a good advising system here and we can work with you

on any issues you are concerned with. I know the intensive music study

you get here at EOU as a music major will create and nearly demand an

increase in your theory, musicianship, and general musical reading and

At this point my first two fears were relieved. However my last one was relieved by an old music friend of mine. He said That I have done more than anybody has done in a four year degree. He also commented that I have much more experience and my little pinky than they do in their whole body and that made me laugh. So I made my decision…

Dear Dr. Teun Fetz,

I have been spending a lot of time thinking about what my next move will be. In the end I have decided that I will be coming up to college at EOU at the start of the new school year.

At first I was a bit afraid about my academic success EOU. When you told me that there are resource like the ones we have here at TVCC it took a lot of stress of my shoulders..

As it stands I have filed the FASSA for EOU and plan to live on the campus in the dorms. I'm going to talk to the EOU transfer department on the TVCC campus to see what else I need to do. Also, If I get work study money I was hoping that I could work in the music department as I've done before at TVCC. If there is any else that I need to do to try to in the form of scholarships or requirements, please let me know.

In closing I just want to say that I look foreword in working with you. I'll try my best to meet your musical expectations and hope I can be useful to the college.

We are still working on get some of our students through our program.
The 3 students I mentioned below, one a very gifted and intelligent
student flunked out of school. The other one had her second baby,
finished her associate degree and is not continuing school. The final
one is Andy Brewer, who is planning on transferring to EOU. He is a
gifted percussionist, the drummer for my jazz band and the principle
percussionist of the Treasure Valley Symphony, He is on a 10 year plan
here as he is attempting to complete his associate before transferring.
He is a music assistant, works with our sound and lighting system, and
tutors music theory students. He has one more year here to complete his
course work as he ran out of financial aid sometime ago and can only
afford to take one or two classes a quarter. We know that when he does
transfer to EOU he will get his financial aid back, but he will need
all the additional financial assistance that he can get. He has no
family that can assist him financially.

I have a full jazz band this year, but none of the students are far
enough in the program to think about transferring yet, but we are
working on it.

P.S. Candace Briggs has a great teaching position in Colorado and is
having great success.

Hello, Mr. Teun Fetz

I am a music major here at T.V.C.C and Bob Armstrong sent me an e-mail about the college and transferring to the EOU music department. As it stands, I have been taking a while to get the required credits to get a transfer degree. I'm have finished my music portion with out to much troubles but the academics part of it has been a long walk up a hill. However I am happy to say that I have been moving forward steady but slow.

Also, as it stands I can only take one or two classes to term. Part of this is do to the fact that I have to work a lot longer to complete assignments do to my awkward learning style. (However, I don't seem to have that problem with music classes).

These are the classes that I need to take to finish my transferee degree; Which I'm planing to finish by the end of this year and another school year.

Dr. Armstrong said that I might be able to take the classes up at EOU, but I worry if I would be successful in that type of environment. Also, I'm worrying about if my percussion skill level. I have a very good understand of the drum set, snare drum, and drum rudiments, but my sight reading skills are kind of weak. I do a lot better if I can work out the parts and then play them. Also I have a good understanding my mallet skills with scales and four mallet teck, it's just my note reading skills are very slow. Again, I need to work out parts before I can play them. However I think my timpani and aux. percussion skills are very good and is my favorite area of percussion. (I even enjoy songs that just the aux percussion in symphony like the tri and tambourine)

I sure I can start practice and bring up my still level on percussion, but in all my academic studies worry me. I wonder if I go with out completing the classes here at TVCC I might get tossed to the wolfs so to speak.

I guess the question is should I transfer at the end of this school year or wait one more year to finish and then go up. I would appreciate any input on this decision and if you provide any information on the academic situation at EOU. Either way I am looking forward on becoming a music major at EOU!

At this point I was really scared about what kind of decision I was going to make. I wasn’t scared so much about the school. My true fear stems from saying goodbye. I would have to say goodbye to all the one’s I’ve encountered all these past eight years and saying goodbye to my second family. Saying goodbye to all those hollow hallways in the college that I love so very much. At this time there was a lot of my mind, so much so, I couldn't even think straight. Because my biggest fear was coming true, saying goodbye.

I’ve been tuning in the evenings on a online math tutoring system. Because it’s an evening tutoring session I was unable to play in the band last term. So this term a friend of mine from the band brought her laptop so I can play in the band and see if anybody logs on. If anybody does logon I have to leave the rehearsal and help the students.

This went on for a couple weeks. When the person who was bringing the laptop said that she had an old laptop that wasn’t working very well. I told her to bring it down and let me have to look at it. She said if I can fix it I can keep it. After next inspection of the computer I found that the hard drive was no longer usable. So I would I need a and spent about 30 bucks for a new hard drive. So now I have a really good fast lap top that cost me $30.00 and a few drum lessons.

Well I start the year off by getting into an accident. Apparently isolate on some times and valley out onto the hard cold road. Some might say I got in the street fight in the street won. Luckily somebody found me lying in the streets leading. And as weird as it sounds, if those people didn’t find me and call an ambulance I would wear likely bleat to death. I guess my time is not up on this planet.

At the hospital the cleaning up and put stitches in my chin. Some of my family members for there and my band teacher. The worst was yet to come when I was told I had to go see a dentist. It appears I have fractured a tooth had to remove it. At first when I looked at myself I’m get really depressed. I’m ugly.

I spent about a week at my parents house. This that on the couch doing nothing. Still very depressed about my tooth. After going back to see the dentist again, I found out that to replace the tooth it would be to far to expensive for me. So for now I’m going to be a little bit toothless, that is until I become a rich band director.

As it stands I’ve gotten over my tooth or lack thereof. It’s taken a lot of pressure off me as now I’ll be seeing a different way for the rest of my life because of my missing tooth. I'm ugly and as werid as that sounds it been a great relief.

Played in part in a play, got a new bass, try to start a comic, drop the band, and lose my mind.

My sister lost her little dog and got really upset about it.

I got a call from my mom and saying that my sister is getting married today.

We went down to the court house and they we were all there and they got married.

My sister is 18 and not even though high school and he quit high school and now in the army.

My dad and I think he treats her with disrespect.

My mom is super happy for them.

I'm scared for them.

Today we have our music practice at the church. After the rehearsal, the guitarist, music leader and I were talking. We were talking about church politics or more like they were taking and I was listening.

At some point they were taking about the voting rites in the church. They said that only members had voting rites and non-members didn't. That struck a never with me. I've been playing drums for this church for 3 years now. Regardless, I'm called a non-member. I'm not a part of their domination. All these years of putting my heart into this church with my music and heart, I'm told that I'm a "non-member". To tell you the truth I'm utterly hurt and insulted. I've been crying about this for a bit this night. I don't want to say something so harsh. It goes against every kindness in my body, mind, and heart but I can't be a fool and ignore it. I feel like I've been discriminated against.

I know it's a political term, "member". They use it for a person that's gone thought the hoops and can vote and serve on the church board. But to be called a "non-member" after all this, really hurts. It really suck. Why can't they call a "member" something different like "associate" or something more PR.

I can go on about this but, I don't feel this is right.

I don't know what I'm going to do about learning this but I must go on. It is all I know how to do.

Veterans day.

Today is Veterans day and I think about all those that gave up their lives and psychological heath. People before my time who fought for our freedoms that we enjoy today. Also, people who fought against the injustice of the world.

My Grandpa fought for 4 years in Vietnam. I remember trying to ask to tell me what happen over there as a boy. I remember him looking at me with a look I've never seen him use and told me, "I will never talk about it". To the day until he died we never did.

My step-dad was in the army for 14 years. He too will never talk about what happen while he was over there.

My step-brother served 8 years in the Marians. He was a pharmacies there and lucky never had to go to war in his time.

One of my best friends who I grew up with is now serving in the Marines. As it stands now he's been fighting for in the "war" for six years. When he comes home from time to time, he seems different...

I've never like wars. They scared me when I was a little kid. Today this "Pandoras-box" of a war that politician made scares me. I wish for their safety and health. For those other people that had to do things that they regret in the name of freedom, I can't thank you enough, and I wish there is something that can take away your pains. For the ones that have died in past, present, and future, I don't think I could thank you enough for the role you played so I can have the freedoms I enjoy.
